Raising awareness about Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency (Alpha-1) is crucial for overcoming barriers to diagnosis, treatment, and care.
Lack of awareness not only delays critical medical interventions but also contributes to significant physical and mental distress for those living with Alpha-1.
For this reason, the Alpha-1 Europe Alliance (A1EA) launched the Alpha-1 Awareness Day Campaign, uniting 18 organizations across 17 countries under the theme #UnitedforAlpha1.
A united effort: The Alpha-1 Awareness Day Campaign
In April 2024, the Alpha-1 Awareness Day Campaign represented a true collaborative effort among European Alpha-1 patient groups and associations. To maximize outreach, the Alliance developed a multilingual social media toolkit, translating all materials into 13 languages. This inclusive approach ensured that the campaign’s messages about Alpha-1—its causes, treatment options, and care pathways—reached a diverse and widespread audience.
By working together, member organizations strengthened the message and ensured far-reaching impact.
This campaign was made possible through the support of Grifols and CSL Behring.

Save the date!
European Alpha-1 Awareness Day, commemorated each year on April 25, remains a key opportunity to advocate for equitable care and support for Alpha-1 patients. The Alliance continues to strengthen its efforts, uniting communities to achieve meaningful and lasting impact.
Together, let’s continue raising awareness and advocating for improved care. Mark your calendars for European Alpha-1 Awareness Day on April 25, 2025, and join the movement!
